Mariah
My name is Mariah. I am 33 and have spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from TLU in 2010 and currently work full time as the Senior Training Coordinator for the UTSA Small Business Development Center.
I served in a leadership role of Ms Wheelchair Texas in 2012 and Ms Wheelchair America 2013. This was a nationwide leadership role. I traveled the country encouraging everyone to be Inclined for Inclusion.
Currently, I have created an instagram called Yoga for CP. (www.instagram.com/yogaforcp). The goal of my instagram is to show others with disability that it is possible to begin a practice at any time and with any ability level.
I teach about common yoga verbiage, how to breathe, how to laugh, and how to modify certain postures. Most of this is aimed at dispelling any fears they may have about starting a practice.
It is my dream and mission to provide and teach yoga and meditation training to people who have disabilities, like I do. I have completed over 300 classes since 2018.
Since I started practice I have been able to return to walking with my Kaye Walker, transfering easier, and have regained my independence in the world.
The practice has taught me that I am not alone. The connection I have regained with my body and with my community inspires me to want to share the practice with others who have disability and may feel the same way I did.

I don’t currently work privately with other people with special needs, but hope that my platform will lead me down a path where my skills are needed most.
